Ensuring Post-Event Communication
10 September 2020
Your event has just ended, and as soon as the last participants have slipped away, it’s time for the debrief. Your impression is overwhelmingly positive. You’ve received so many thank yous and compliments that your batteries seem recharged for at least a millennium! All that’s left to do is manage the post-event communication…
Benefit from the Aftermath of the Event
The event, by definition, has a limited duration; it is up to you to extend its effects. Gathering feedback will allow you to verify that your impression is correct: your event was a real success. With the memory of the event still fresh in the minds of participants, it’s the perfect time to collect feedback. Gathering reviews via email is a good approach, but if you can obtain a few images to post on social media, with the authors’ consent, it would be even better. If any negative feedback were to disrupt your perfect scenario, take the opportunity to learn valuable lessons for organizing your future events. After all, no one is perfect!
Publish the event photos
You have some great photos from your event; be sure to share them, don’t hesitate to post them on social media! It’s a great opportunity for participants to relive the event, which is always highly appreciated, especially when they can spot themselves in some of the shots. If that’s the case, they will likely be tempted to share them with their circle of friends and acquaintances. This will surely boost your visibility!
Study the aftermath of the event by leveraging analytics resources.
Analytics data is a goldmine of information to help perfect your future events. If your event was a success, your website likely experienced a surge in visitors. A quick look at Google Analytics should provide insights on this. As you suspected, this spike in visits to your website confirms your impression. But don’t stop at your website traffic—take a look at social media to see your audience’s reactions. Did the hashtag created for the event achieve the expected success? All these indicators should help you fine-tune the organization of your future events!
Evaluate the return on investment of your event
Did you stick to the initial budget? If not, identifying the reasons for the overrun will help you better manage your budget in the future. On the other hand, if you have a comfortable surplus, now is probably the time to revisit some invoices that have been sitting in the back of your desk drawer. It would be a shame if your suppliers didn’t also benefit from the aftermath of your event!
Update your information after the event
Take a quick tour of the various platforms and social media where you announced your event. You probably know how frustrating it is to get excited about an event, only to discover a minute later that it took place two weeks ago! To avoid this kind of disappointment for your audience, make sure to update your announcements by thanking your audience for their participation.
A few more thank yous to close the event
You can never thank the participants enough for contributing to the success of your event. It’s time to send your thank-you cards and small personalized gifts. Thank you for your attention!
