Palais Galliera’s pop-rock Notte embodied by Etienne Daho’s wardrobe
10 March 2021
At the start of the new year, the Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de Paris, puts all fashion addicts in agreement with an exceptional donation from singer Etienne Daho. An artist who has left his mark not only on French chanson, but also on the world of fashion, with his unmistakable and absolutely unique style.
Encouraged by his friend Elli Meideros, a major donor to the museum, the singer donated 34 pieces of his wardrobe. Emblematic outfits from the capital’s top fashion houses, including Dior Homme, Saint Laurent and Céline.
On the program: the iconic black leather perfecto, which Etienne Daho has appropriated like a second skin, and through which he affirms his pronounced taste for vintage. His trademark Saint James marinière, which he wore on the cover of his album La Notte, will also be on show.
Six tuxedo jackets by Hedi Slimane, undoubtedly the most present designer in his wardrobe. Embellished with embroidery and sequins, these creations reflect a friendship that has revolutionized the world of men’s fashion.
A veritable treasure trove, this donation illustrates the strong emotional relationship that the king of 1980s French pop has maintained with his clothes since the beginning of his career. Stage and street clothes that he described as They’re our “travelling companions” and the armour we slip into to become the Other. They are charged with all energies and emotions. Stage fright, impatience to get on stage, the joys of sharing and the incomparable Great Love. The one we receive and the one we give”.
