Saint-Laurent presents its spring-summer 2019 men’s collection in New York
13 November 2020
Anthony Vaccarello chose New York to present the new Saint Laurent men’s spring-summer 2019 collection, just days after the tenth anniversary of Yves Saint Laurent’s death. The parade took place under the watchful eye of celebrities, among whom were the familiar faces of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Louis Garrel, Ezra Miller, Sean Lennon and Kate Moss.

After two shows on the Trocadero esplanade, Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello crossed the Atlantic to present his new collection in New York. The brand’s current success in the United States is no doubt a factor in this choice. The collection, presented on June 6, 2018, also breaks free from the usual dates imposed by Fashion Week, and places the collection in a new time-space, that of the half-season.
The Saint Laurent men’s collection, an urban neo western
Anthony Vaccarello, artistic director of Saint Laurent since 2016, remains faithful to the rock aesthetic initiated by his predecessor Hedi Slimane, and now the brand’s new hallmark. The long, wiry, androgynous silhouettes of the male and female models are paraded in a western, rock-mixed ambience, each set to the throbbing electronic notes of a soundtrack imagined by electro composer Sebastian.
The Saint Laurent man according to Vaccarello, black above all else
Black reigns supreme in this universe, where its only opponents are muted reds or neutral hues. Same leggy silhouette for the cowboys, and a few cowgirls, strolling down the black marble catwalk, all dressed in skintight pants, tailored jackets embroidered with sequins and boots with a hint of cowboy boots. Fluid or transparent shirts reveal the boys’ childlike, hairless torsos, which are sometimes stripped down to nothing but metallic paint, embellished with gris-gris, feathers and Amerindian necklaces. Wide-brimmed hats, set back from the head and sometimes looking too small, complete the silhouette.
